FAQs
What makes Wellness Outside The Box unique?
We combine psychotherapy tools and techniques with meaningful activities and experiences. We also provide counseling outside of the traditional office setting, utilizing nature and the outdoors in the healing process.
We work with clients to help them identify and clarify their values, strengths, and goals. During treatment, clients learn to realign themselves with their values, thus decreasing cognitive dissonance while increasing a sense of fulfillment and gratification in their lives. Goals are often determined based on one’s values and are achieved through focus on one’s strengths. While your goal may be to decrease feelings of depression, manage symptoms of anxiety, strengthen relationships, tackle career challenges, or improve your ability to cope with daily stressors, our goal is to create a warm, safe environment to guide and foster the desired change.
What do you mean by evidence-based theories and techniques?
Kelly & Michele do not adhere to one specific method, theory, or technique. Instead, they utilize the most beneficial tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy to gear treatment towards the specific needs and goals of their clients. In addition to the more traditional therapies, treatment often includes aspects of Adventure Based Counseling, Ecotherapy, Pet Therapy, and Play Therapy. Employing their Dual Therapist Model, Drs. Kinderman and Yanek incorporate evidence-based approaches with nature, humor, breathing, and movement to create a unique, effective, and complete approach to health and wellness.
What is a Dual Therapist model?
Drs. Kinderman and Yanek have created and developed the unique Dual Therapist Model: two psychotherapists conducting sessions together with the individual client. This is an innovative approach that enables us to model communication, friendship, humor, connectedness, trust, and genuineness throughout the sessions/groups/retreats, We bring two skills sets together for a fuller, more well-rounded approach and demonstrate acceptance of alternate yet equally valid perspectives.
What kind of transformative experiences do you use?
We believe in using real life experiences and activities whenever possible to practice what is learned in sessions and to further process deeper emotions. These experiences are unique to each client’s preferences but may include mindful walking, rock climbing, hiking, paddle boarding, dancing, and yoga.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approach to your specific needs.
How long will it take?
Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to this question. Everyone’s circumstances are unique, and the length of time therapy takes to help individuals achieve their goals varies greatly.
